Editorial Reviews: Season 4 of Star Trek: The Next Generation seemed like the year of family. After quickly resolving the breathtaking cliffhanger of "The Best of Both Worlds," the show took pains to show some of what the Federation was fighting for. We meet Picard's brother, Data's father, Tasha's sister, and Worf's adoptive human parents, plus an old flame with a surprise son in tow. The Klingon heritage subplot that begins here and builds to the cliffhanger finale ("Redemption") would continue to the show's end and through into Worf's reappearance in Deep Space Nine.

The year also explored the implications of Data, Lwaxana Troi, Geordi, and Dr. Crusher being in love, while Miles O'Brien (given a first name at last) married Keiko. There were old friends revisited: the ubiquitous Q in a hilarious Robin Hood romp ("Qpid"), perennial screwup Reg Barclay ("Nth Degree"), and even the mysterious Traveler from season 1's "Where No One Has Gone Before" (played by Eric Menyuk, who was nearly cast as Data). There were new races introduced who would have an important bearing on Trek's destiny: the Cardassians and the Trill. Most of all, though, there were the one-off stories that impressed: "Clues," with its memory-loss mystery; "Night Terrors," with some genuine frights; and "Identity Crisis," with possibly the only time Trek technology really helped Geordi solve a puzzle. Then right at the end, reinforcing the year's familial theme, Denise Crosby returned as her own half-Romulan daughter! --Paul Tonks

Summary: Nerdy fun
Comment: Allthought wifey just can't see the point in buying old TV-series, especially sci-fi series it's still great fun to watch, and wonderfull to suddently discover an episode that I hadn't seen before. Great!

There's also the bragging rights by owning the full series of ST TNG.

Absoloutely recommendable, also for folks who do not see themselves as being trekkies. You really don't have to be a Trekkie to apreciate the philosofies and style of Gene Roddenberrie's universe.

Summary: Among the finest of the Star Trek franchise
Comment: My favorite episodes in Star Trek: the Next Generation have always been the funny ones and the scary ones. Q is his usual cocky, comedic self this season, which is great. Stand-alone episodes, like the Night Terrors, Clues and Identity Crisis, offer some really thrilling experiences. Klingons still take the fore-ground on this one. It's good to see more Klingons, 'cos sometimes Worf just doesn't do it for me, while the other Klingons do: their intensity offers actors something real to grip onto, I think. Propably against the opinions of many Trekkies my favorite episode this season is Devil's Due: the possibilities this episode offers are tantalizing, though somewhat unrealized in the end. Still, all in all, an excellent season of Star Trek in it's finest tradition!

Comment: I've enjoyed the Star Trek Next Generation franchise since it first came out. The character development during the series continues to be what draws me to this series as my favourite Star Trek. It's great that it's been so affordable to purchase in region 2 format (I live in Canada, but have an all region player). Thanks, Amazon UK for ongoing GREAT service

Summary: A gripping season
Comment: I recieved this season for christmas. I have not been disappointed with it. The storylines are incredible and complicated. Sometimes, you wonder how things can return to normal.

It is compulsive viewing. The picture quality is higher on this series than in any of the previous ones. This is the first series when computer animation is heavily used and it has been sucsessful.

This series really makes you want to buy the next series so watch it or you'll end up with all 7 series. Compulsive viewing and highly recommended.
