Summary: Amazing - have you got good quality reception???
Comment: I have returened this PVR today to Comet after only two days. I will tell you why. This is a brilliant product if you a can't get a decent Satellite pic- but have a 60% quality Freeview reception - 100% strength reception is NOT Enough- Where I live in Scotland, unfortunately has a bad reception, about 50% of the channels were really very good- (this product upscaled the standard definition channels to near HD fantastic quality) and the rest, because of the signal quality were very bad- I wish some one told me this before I bought this product- BUT COMET Aberdeeen were brilliant- very good shop and they understood the problem- OTHERWISE IT IS REALLY 5 STARS

Summary: Humax Improved
Comment: I'm happy to be the first to review this product with it's new software upgrade.

When I purchased this a week ago I was horrified at the ridiculously loud fan noise. After contacting Humax to see if it was a fault I was told an over the air upgrade was coming this week. What a difference it makes, it's gone from being the loudest PVR on the market to the quietest! So instead of telling people to avoid it give it five stars. The picture quality is superb with no blocking or freezing, it's a piece of cake to reord shows and even series. And it never misses the end of a show, a big improvement on my old one.

Sure there are a few ways I'd like the software to be improved but it's nothing you can't work round with a few clicks. Top marks.

Summary: Fix for fan problem due 26th-29th Nov...
Comment: Apparently there is a immanent firmware fix to sort the noisy fan out. This will be sent OTA (over the air) to all boxes left in standby. This does seem to be the Freeview PVR to get providing the noise problem is sorted - let's wait and see.

Summary: Noisy but worth it....
Comment: I read the reviews for this product and hesitated... The noise was the main concern.
However as I knew it would be in a unit behind a glass screen I went ahead. Yes it is noisy, yes you can hear it... After a while you simply don't notice it any more and instead concentrate on what it does so well.

The picture and sound quality are both superb. Personally, as someone who probably only needs 10% of the features, I find it very easy to use and light years ahead of a VHS unit (or having to mess with DVDs).

As it is also doubling up as a Freeviw box it is getting a lot of use (especially by our son!) and thus far has been trouble free.
Sure it takes a while to "boot up" and retrieve the programme guide. It's also far from silent but the quality and ease of recording far outweigh these issues....

Regarding the noisy fan mentioned in another review, this has now been sorted by Humax there is a slight noise but nothing to bother about. Set up and running in half an hour

I exchanged my Topfield (I had 3 all with problems) for this Humax, it is better and cheaper it has a good handset better displays and in my opinion easier to use. The upscaling makes a difference to the picture. The hand book like most nowdays could be better but most operations are commonsense.

Hoping it proves reliable, only time will tell
