Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Comment: Setup easy. Does what is claimed - Freeview TV - on a pc/laptop (actually a Celeron M, Compaq). Did have to substitute the aerial with one that also boosts the signal, but that isn't an issue with the adapter, just that we live in a dip. So, the choice was - new tv for the daughter's bedroom or a tv adapter for her laptop (and separate indoor aerial). Customer Rating: Summary: Digital For Pc Comment: Being new to this type of product i was sceptical at first, then thought let's give it a try, and i have to say i was pleasantly suprised. The dongle is small and works really well, slight drawback is the portable aerial, cannot receive any signal with this, although that could be down to my area. Once plugged into my normal aerial though it is just as good as the standard digital set top box for my tv Customer Rating: Summary: Good product let down by supporting software Comment: Having purchased this and a similar product recently (click on my "All reviews" to see the other product), they both work well under Vista (although you do need a different device driver which is available from the extremely helpful supplier - he is worth the 5* feedback). However, the software package that comes with this device does not feel as good a quality as I would expect. The recording function is jumpy (note that on other device it was smooth and of good quality using the same laptop) and the colour often drops out. I have not used the supplied aerial since, due to the area in which I live, I know that I would be wasting my time. However, connected to the roof aerial, I get all the channels that I would normally get on my main television. So overall, a good piece of hardware that is let down by the feel of the software package - you may think that the 3* rating is a bit harsh, but I think it is OK and but not as stunning as some of the alternate products. Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product Comment: I must admit I had my doubts about this product, but its actually pretty amazing for the money. It's basically a freeview box. However because its for a PC, that means you get the added features of being able to record onto your PC, pause and rewind, all that kind of stuff. Plus its not just for the UK, it can pick up any digital channels anywhere in the world depending on where you go travelling. Maybe a freeview box can do that too, but its not like you're going to take your freeview box away on holiday with you now, is it? The only problem I have with this product is that the little arial that comes with it is useless. I'm in a high signal area and upstairs - the little thing wasn't picking up one bar of signal (out of 10). I haven't tried a regular mobile arial yet either, but I'm assuiming it'll work better that the one that came with it. As for a normal rooftop ariel, it works fine - really nice picture quality, no signs of overheating. However the software is a bit simple, and when it downloads the list of available channels a lot of them are repeated and are in no particular order. Sometimes channels I wanted to watch didn't appear. But these are only slight drawbacks to an otherwise worthy investment if you're often on the go travelling or at Uni. So for the cheapest TV dongle - its pretty good stuff! Customer Rating: Summary: An absolute bargain!! Comment: This is a true bargain, especially for you university students out there (like me). Reception with the supplied aerial is superb, dont worry about that, you just have to make sure its attached to something metal (its magnetic, so that helps), and have it pointing in the right direction. You get all the freeview channels, and you can record a show and watch later. This is a real bargain, and is the perfect alternative to buying a TV as you can simply convert your laptop.
