    Summary: Technology moves on
    Comment: Excellent bedroom system.

How technology moves on, my entire CD collection got obsoleted once the high capacity mp3 player came out so i plugged that into my bedroom hifi, then the mp3 player gets obsoleted when I get a media PC home server running 24/7, and the radio is obsoleted with the advent of internet radio. So in comes the Logitech Boom to provide music for my bedroom and out goes the conventional bedroom min system with all the ancient CD and Aux in and RDS radio technologies.

Easy setup, runs all the music off my main server, also perfect for internet radio and good alarm clock.

    PROS:
Excellent sound quality for such a compact system
    Easy to use
Beautiful, sleek and simple design. Good presentation and comes with a nice carry case.

    Cons:
Doesnt work with wmp auto playlists, which constitutes most of my collection
Remote needs a wider angle of range
Scrolling through the menus to change various settings and radio stations gets tedious

    Summary: Great Product, great sound
Comment: Very pleased with my purchase. It took a bit to set up the squeezebox server (only version 7.3 worked for me on Unix) on my NAS server, but once that was sorted, it was easy to get the squeezebox going.

Great sound quality, and I love the preset buttons. My wife has #1 and it plays a random selection of Robbie Williams songs ;-)

    Summary: Fantastic
Comment: I was so impressed with the squeezebox, when it came to look for a music source in my bedroom I was very happy to discover the boom!

Sound is warm and has a fantastic build quality. Preset buttons on the front allow immediate playing of favourite genres from last fm, or BBC radio stations, or even specific songs from itunes library... fantastic!!

Summary: Move aside for the next generation
Comment: Have just returned mine and will replace it with a Squeezebox Radio. Unless you must have the power and stereo output, I would ALWAYS go for the Radio.
The setup, as with all Squeezebox products, is childsplay - enter name and password of your router and minutes later you are listening to internet radio, great! Having installed the Radio just a few days before, I did miss the larger (meaning multiple lines) colour display. The green, single line display is tedious, entering data (passwords, searching for music, URLs...) is cumbersome. The menu is not the greatest either. While the box itself makes a good impression in terms of build and sound, the controls are painful too. The buttons are squidgy, the presets did not work well (you are supposed to hold the button for several seconds to pre-set a station, but this didn't work at all for me) and having a silly little and poorly positioned button for the volume control when there is a lovely big button is beyond me... I probably would have returned it already anyway, but the final nail in its coffin was the poor reception. I have very good wifi reception with my laptop and the Squeezebox Radio in my most remote room, but the Boom kept breaking up. This can be possibly overcome by tweaking the buffering settings or fixed using a powerline, but at this price... no, thank you. The two systems feel like they are from two different generations. Until the Boombox is updated to closer resemble the Radio, go for the Radio (also expensive). It is equally well built, works better, has got the better buttons and better display.

Summary: More of the same ... in a good way
Comment: I've had a Squeezebox 3 paired to slimserver 6.5.x on a QNAP TS-201 NAS playing AAC files through my hi-fi and also on demand BBC radio etc.
The QNAP had a custom slimserver build which made it hard to upgrade so I lost the on demand radio which I liked.

This XMAS I got a great deal on an HP EX490 Home Server. This runs the standard Squeezebox Server and is superb. I re-encoded my 450 albums in FLAC ... and the Squeezebox came to life again in a big way.

I saw the Boom and thought ... I could really do with a good quality stereo in my study ... and it made sense to have one that could everything the Squeezebox could do ... the Boom was it ... and it is superb. On demand radio, excellent sound ... looks superb. And at Amazon and good price ... Can't recommend it enough.

    Paul.
