It sounds stupid, but they are just about impossible to get out, unless you have fingers shaped like toothpicks. I had to use a penknife to get out (and destroy) the batteries. I read the negative reviews and thought it cant be that bad but this radio is a shocker. the speaker must be made out of a beer can, it's tinny and annoying to listen to for more then 30 mins. any tunes that you have heard before take 30 secs to recognize because anything over than high range is lost. i would liken it to the little pocket radio you take to football matches to check the scores. my advise would be to spend 20 pounds more and get a decent radio or keep with the one you have because it can't be any worse than this. Small speaker is a limitation, but this is not at Bose prices. Frankly, I cannot see what there is to complain about with this item. Customer Rating: Summary: Intempo Digital DAB radio Comment: Mine is blue rather than black but the works are the same. I wanted a portable for use outside and this fills the bill just a few niggles. The batteries don't last long (high power rechargeables)and are hard to insert. The "tuning" dial is very fiddly - No good at all if you have large fingers or problems with your hands. The electronic volume control is stepped and can be difficult to set at the level you want. The sound is quite good for a unit of this size and it comes with the mains adaptor.
