Back to Pure One DAB/FM Portable Radio - Black
Spotlight customer reviews:

Summary:
Great radio, poor shelf life
Comment:
Both my parents and I have bought this radio. A DAB radio, from Pure, for £50? Brilliant. And it
was for the first 6 months. Slowly but surely the sound quality disappeared. It's like when the
power cable is touching the ariel and the sound is a little bubbly, and odd. Hell, we listen to alot
of Radio 5 Live, so we're used to Alan Green sounding a little distant... Right now, the radio can't
even scan for stations. The same happened for my folks. It's a real shame, because it's an awesome
radio, especially for the price. I'd keep your receipt if I were you. (it's worth pointing out that
I have two other Pure DAB radios that have been, for the past 3 years, utterly excellent. It's just
worth spending a little bit more on it)...

Good value for money, excellent reception in a digitally-challenged environment
Comment:
Reliable DAB reception at last! And, no, I don't live in the Outer Hebrides, just north-west London,
in a first-floor flat in a three-storey Victorian semi surrounded by tall trees, all of which has
been enough to challenge FM reception on my old Aiwa boombox, and digital reception on my first DAB
purchase, a Ministry of Sound radio/CD combo. The Pure One occasionally requires a quick retune
(just press the 'station' button and wait a few seconds), but easily receives all the BBC channels,
major local stations and a few novelty items (the 'Birdsong' channel is curiously diverting). The
sound is significantly improved by connection to speakers; I can recommend Creative GigaWorks T10,
which also support my laptop and a standalone CD player just by swapping the cable between their
respective output connections. I agree with other reviewers that the user interface on Pure One is
somewhat awkward -- you need to be a bit nippy to change channels or arrange the pre-set buttons
without initiating the automated tuning routine, so the first half-hour was frustrating (and not
enhanced by a manual from the IKEA school of over-simplified diagrams unsupported by text). However,
it's been easy listening since: recommended.

Brilliant

Would someone from Pure please contact Microsoft to show them how to produce a product that does
what it says "on the tin", does it reliably and well, works first time, and does'nt keep locking-up,
crashing etc.
Well done Pure, a great product.

Excellent
Comment:
I've had a Pure One for over a year now and continue to be very impressed by its performance.
Everything works as you would want. Both DAB and FM reception are excellent. The display, although
small, is easy to read from all angles and shows everything you'd expect. The sound is clear and
quite loud enough- for me at least. I've recently bought a Pure Evoke 3, which is three times the
price, but in some ways- e.g. FM reception- is not as good as the 'One'.
Just a couple
of niggles. I think that the shiny plastic knob looks cheap- something in brushed aluminium would
have been better. And having the push buttons on the front face rather than the top, means that you
often have to hold the radio to stop pushing it backwards when you make a selection.
/>But these don't really detract from what is probably the best radio of its type on the market
today. Excellent.

Li-on Battery
Comment:
I was undecided on whether to give 5 or 4 stars since the performance, value and many factors are
excellent. I have been waiting for DAB for ages and my area has just started receiving it - and
Pure One was the radio I wanted after going through alternatives for some time.
I agree with
virtually all the good reviews now using it - but also the few not so good. The Pure Li-on battery
is excellent, though expensive - and I have found it does last far longer than some of the reviews
state. Maybe they did not leave it's first charge for 24 hours, as recommended? The problem is
that the indication of the charge level shows that it is full until it is virtually not - therefore
the sound just stops when you think the battery has enough power in it! I think a properly working
graduated indicator would be better, showing when it was half full when it was, etc.
I also
agree with comments about changing stations being more awkward than hoped for. It would be nice if
it just had one for going back to the last station used with only one press, for instance, instead
of going through the playing about.
Anyway, despite being delighted with it, I must cut
marking to 4 stars for these relatively minor points.
