Summary: Sadly didn't perform
Comment: This was my first DVD player - high expectations having seen the other reviews. Arrived quickly -
but unfortunately had vertical lines up the middle of the screen on playback. Amazon rapidly
replaced it but same problem again.

Toshiba SD240E works flawlessly.

Perhaps I was unlucky.

Summary: A hit-and-miss with the Starlogic
Comment: We bought our Starlogic DVD player before Christmas and it does seem to work; but the picture does
not fill up the TV screen. It does not matter what sort of DVD we put in, we can only watch the
movie in the middle of the TV screen. The top and bottom of the TV screen remain black.

We have
followed the accompanying instructions to try and fix the problem but have not been able to do
so.

At first, we thought this was normal but then we noticed that noone mentioned this problem in
the "customer reviews" section, so it might be a problem that is particular to the Starlogic that
was delivered to us.

We have just written to Amazon to see if they are able to help. We would
prefer not to have to return in case the replacement comes with a new set of problems. Judging from
the reviews that this product has had, it looks as if the quality is a hit-and-miss affair. One
other thing, we do seem to get the text out of the blue (as mentioned by another customer).

Summary: DISSAPOINTING
Comment: At first, this seemed great value for money, it seemed to play all disc's - region one - VCD, cd-r,
etc. Then I tried to play some of my DVD-R's. At first everything seemed fine, then the film froze
for a couple of seconds. At first I thought okay, fine, but it got worse and worse the longer I
continued, it was unwatchable. I tried this with other DVD-R's - same result. Shame really, as it
seems like a nice cheap player, but not too good with DVD-R's. Amazon were great though, and I was
fully refunded upon return of the item.

Summary: A Good Machine but a Bad Remote
Comment: No problems with playing discs, it does what it says on the tin. However, ours has problems with
other remotes, eg, TV and sound system. If I want to increase the volume on the tv it will just skip
the dvd forward instead. The dvd remote seems not to function too well more than 3ft from the player
(every button either brings up "invalid key" or skips forward a track). Sometimes it will skip
tracks forward all by itself. When its in this kind of mood I have to chuck the remote into a
different room in order to stop it! Its probably just this particular machine but a review above
also noted the remote as a problem.

Summary: First impression did not last
Comment: On arrival, this DVD player appeared to be amazing value. We then noticed that when playing some
DVDs, the sound was not accurately synchronised with the video. And after less than one week's use,
the sound failed completely. A replacement player arrived quickly. It also exhibits poor sound
synchronisation so it looks like a characteristic of the player rather than a fault. Occasionally,
it's very bad indeed. Overall, a disappointment. Cheap but not awfully cheerful. Wish I'd spent a
little more on something better.
