Summary: NTSC Region 1 Player
Comment: I recently bought a DVD called Fire from Canada but my existing multi-region Phillips DVD player
wouldn't play it. The instructions on the DVD said it needed a Region 1 or NTSC system so I checked
with Amazon and found this Starlogic DVD player did both. The item was on offer so ordered it. On
arrival I connected it up and played my DVD Fire without problem so was very happy. It also meant
that future DVDs from America or Canada unavailable in PAL formats would play OK too. The remote
control is easy to use and well labelled, always a bonus. The only criticisms I would make is that
the manual controls are on the top of the player instead of the front (so not very convenient if
you're stacking) and there is no power lamp so you're never sure whether the player's on or off.

Summary: Almost perfect - great for the price!
Comment: Had this DVD player several months now and it works fine. Slight problem with it picking up sound
interference from the video recorder it is sitting on, but if switch the video recorder to a channel
with no input that solves that. Very occasionally noticed slight poor sound synchronization but
we have certainly but pleased with our purchase - very good value for the price.

Summary: Great value
Comment: I've noticed quite a few reviews really hammering this player and have to say that I've had mine now
for 3 months and it's given good service. My young son (3) uses it and it's put up with his clumsy
hands without complaint. I'd rate the performance as very good; in fact it performs better than a
£180 Sony player I use in the lounge. It's quiet and has played a mixture of DVDs without any
problems at all. I'm not using it with a cinema sound system so I can't judge the sound in that
context but through the tele it sounds just fine. Maybe the later batches of players haven't been
put together so well... if that's the case then it's a shame because I rate this as one of my best
buys from Amazon.

Summary: Dont buy
Comment: DO NOT buy this DVD Player under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! To begin with the remote control did not work
properly and then after about a month the disc drive would not stay shut. If you put a DVD in it
would shut for a few seconds and then re-open. I only bought it because it was cheap and now i know
why!

Comment: .
I could write volumes about what I do not like about this dvd player. HOWEVER.

The fact is,
that this player is cheap and plays anything that you put in it. It is excellent value. It plays
pizzas and dodgey dvd's too.

I spent over £2,000 on a Sony state of the art entertainment system
that included a top of the range dvd player only to find that it played certain dvd discs. I was
informed by a boffin that Sony encrypt the micro-chips in their dvd players to play only top quality
dvd's. So if you fancy making your own interactive dvd's, you are stuffed when trying to play them
back through Sony dvd players.

I read that this Starlogic was made in China where dvd players are
designed to play any type of dvd in whatever condition. It is true. It plays everything. My top of
the range Sony dvd player is now redundant.
