The new DVD/ remote works fine - but it cost me £12 (half the price of theunit) to ship the malfunctioning one back!
plays copies ok as long asthe disk is in good condition. any heavy amount of scrathes wont play properly as the laser is verysensitive to marks on the disk.
Boy was I wrong! It wasn't just the answer, it was THE PERMANENT SOLUTION. It plays EVERYTHING! DVD-R's, DVDs of allregions, etc. Quality is perfect. My friend brought over some of his compressed DVDs and itdecodes them perfectly. I was very dubious about getting a cheap unit, cause I knew I would be veryannoyed if there was anything I couldn't do.... but since it was (at that time) temporary anyway, Iwas willing to live without some features. Nevertheless, this DVD has done it all.
To behonest, the lack of display doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I think it's the ideal design. There's nothing worse in a dark quiet movie setting than little green lights and numbers that youhave to cover to ignore. The display is easy to call up by pressing one button on the remote(OSD). It places the display on the top of the screen.
Sound is great. Haven't noticed adifference, and I'm very picky about my sound. Then again, I do have a very good sound system, sonot sure if it's the player, or if my system is good enough to offset any shortcomings.
The lagtime. It is true that sometimes (rarely), there has been a slight lag between the actors and thesound in some movies (not sure if it's always my region 1 dvds or not... still trying to figure thatout). However, a quick press of the pause button and play usually sorts it. I would have given theunit a 4 star for this, instead of 5, except: THE PRICE WENT DOWN, and my other EXPENSIVE unit usedto do this too. Then again.... it broke down. So who knows!?
Great unit GREATER price. Don't bescared of this unit.... GO FOR IT. I hate wasting time... I wouldn't write this much if I didn'tmean it. :)
