Back to Kingston Technology 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive

"Does what it says on the tin"
Comment:
This is a cheap 8GB usb memory stick, formatted in FAT32, just what I needed for backing up work
from my netbook.
It installed automatically in Windows XP.
There are no
security features (at this price, not surprising), but I suppose in XP or Vista you could put your
file(s) in a zip folder and assign a password if you're concerned about that.
A small
LED flashes when data is being saved or accessed.
Other customers have commented on
excessive p&p charges, but this seems to have been sorted; I payed a basic price with free p&p.

Good Product
Comment:
I bought one of these a month ago and I've used it daily with no problems as of yet. The device is
sturdy, the processing speed is good, and the price is low. It seems reliable enough, all of my
files have been recognised with no loss of data up until this point, all in all a good product.

Great Device
Comment:
I've been a fan of the Kingston Data Sticks for a while now, starting out with the 1GB one and
working my way up to the 8GB stick I have now. They're extremely compact but reasonably sturdy
devices, they're plug and play as promised so you just plug it in and you're ready to transfer files
and on that note file transfer is quite fast too. While the design itself is a bit bland, the 8GB
variation I have is quite a handsome device with some work done on it. You get more than the worth
for the little money you pay and I would wholly recommend it to anyone.

Summary:
Not suitable for "ready boost"
Comment:
Really disappointed with this item, writes at only 3mb/s that's less than half the speed of my other
usb 2.0 flash drive, if you're only looking to store items it'll do the job, just be prepared to
wait, especially if you've got some big files to back up. Also because of the slow speed you can't
use this for "ready boost", so it's really down to what you need it for.

Summary:
Good value but slow
Comment:
This flash drive is great value at £13 for 8GB, but surprisingly for a modern branded drive it is
too slow for Windows Vista's ReadyBoost feature. If you have no need for that function then the
drive works well, and is physically a neat design. Does have a pull off cap which would be easy to
loose, however at present it would be hard to find such a high capacity drive for this amount or
less.
