Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Recording Comment: I haven't bought one, but wouldn't you want the latest 2x TV tuner (thinking of the next generation -HD) in it to record as well as play back and both at the same time. Possibly fit the HDDs (not necessarily USB) yourself in the machine, so you do not have extra power cables. Customer Rating: Summary: Simply a Nice Device Comment: First off, make sure you are buying the second generation one (WDBABG0000NBK) as this model supports DTS audio. I purchased mine on the 1st of March 2010 - a second generation version of the WDTV. A lot of people suggest the WDTV Live is a better option. Why is that? I don't really want to watch YouTube videos on my TV, I have a PC for that. If you want to be able to watch videos on the internet (I guess the BBC iPlayer and such will not work with the WDTV Live), then you're better off with the WDTV Live. If you want something that plays pretty much any file you throw at it, get this :D The WDTV is a great, tiny media player. It fits in the palm of your hand very easily. It fits well with the new MyBook HDD series using white lights and looks great with my other media hardware. Of course, like most other Western Digital hardware, it comes incased in the black sleek outfit which attracts fingerprints easily. Nothing a duster won't clean though :) The interface is pretty easy to learn and has lots of useful features. However, I will only require one which is the Video > Browse Folders option. Shame you cannot choose to turn the others off or set a "home" folder or something, but hey, it does what I want it to! The fading in and out menu's are a nice touch, but in some places, a little over used. PRO: Shows "folder" thumbnails - pretty :) CON: Cannot customise interface (not really a con as such, but I found it hard to think of one!) I think we'll upgrade to the wireless one though cos it's a pain having to plug it into the tv and computer to transfer files. Customer Rating: Summary: Ideal when there is no TV in region Comment: This device connects a portable hard drive to TV and plays movies which I have recorded on sky, transfered to my Archos and then transfered to a W.D. 500 Gb hard drive. I also playback movies recorded directly to a hard drive on my Tesco Tecknica TV. The quality is very good with video or photos. I would recommend this to anyone who needs movies on the go with very little bulk. (300 gms) Customer Rating: Summary: tiny for what it does Comment: Overall excellent product have connected it with two hard drives a my book and a samsung, first time loading takes a while but after that only a minute or so, plays just about any type of video, can view pictures as well as play music but thats not why i use it, did use a hdmi cable for a more clear picture( which should really have been provided). the remote is microscopic but it has most the stuff on there, when playing a video file if you have a srt file of the same name in the same folder it will automatically load it. the my book does freeze when i switch the box off which is strange as they are both WD products, but that could be my hard drives fault.
