SE210 - Worth the money if you like music
Comment:
I've previously been a Sony earphone fan having bought many pairs of EX71s. The 71s cost about £35 when I started buying them a few years ago so they weren't necessarily a cheap set. However, Sony has moved on from them and last week it was time for me too.
I've been watching Shure for a number of years and I thought I'd take the plunge and buy some SE210s having received some Amazon vouchers and with Christmas coming up (a gift to myself!).
The earphones arrived and I looked forward to trying them out with my iPod. However, disappointment was the prime feeling as the right-hand earphone had an annoying and very obvious rattle/distortion when played anything above quiet. I was straight on to the Amazon website on Saturday night and completion the return form. The next day, Sunday, Amazon had replied and a new set was despatched by Special Delivery - fantastic service from Amazon!!!
The new set work perfectly. No sign of the previous fault. The sound is fantastic, clear and crisp. In my view the entire range of audio is perfect - and audio often being subjective and very much a personal thing, you should really hear it for yourself but the sound quality is far superior to headsets I've previously used. This includes Bose noise cancelling headphones which I've used extensively - the SE210s are better, in my opinion.
The cable is slightly thicker than with a 'normal' pair of earphones and represents the quality of this product. The cable is split in two with a quality connector about a foot from the earphones. This is good as you can keep your iPod in your shirt pocket without having to cope with a full 3 feet of cable hanging around.
The earphones came fitted with foam buds but the box contained a range of different buds of various sizes to suit all ears and tastes. P. Cavaney, reviewing below (2-star rating) commented on the foam buds being "glued" to the earphones. I too thought this when I received my set, however after a bit of investigation they came off easily with a rotating motion like unscrewing the bud from the earphone. The foam bud is attached (glued) to a small plastic tube which slides over the earphone pipe. I understand P. Cavaney's comments but I believe that it wasn't a fault with the earphones - but I DO agree that they did appear to be glued on to the earphones at first inspection. :-)
Currently can't find any negative points for these earphones. If you can stretch to the £70 and you like music, then by a set today!

let down by some piano music
Comment:
Generally these are excellent earphones, once you get the fit right, which takes a while. Sound quality is very good, as is sound isolation. I use these with an Ipod on the underground every day and these cut out much, though not all, of the noise. There are two issues, however. If you are on the move, the heavy lead makes it feel like the earphones are about to come out. The lead is heavy because of the junction between the short lead (too short to be any use!)and the extension. I could put up with this. The bigger issue is that I listen to a lot of classical music, including piano music, and, unless I use lossless files, there is distortion of the higher notes of some piano music. I tried 320 bit rate, but the distortion still exists. I think it's a lot to ask, to re-rip many CDs lossless plus there is the issue of space on the Ipod. So 4 stars not 5. Is this distortion typical of good earphones or are there any with equivalent sound quality which can handle piano music well at 320 bit rate ? By comparison, the Sennheiser PX200 headphones work well in this respect.

Truly excellent quality, just be sure you know what you're buying.
Comment:
These are really a great investment for anyone who's looking to listen to music the way it was meant to be heard.
The clarity of each note is a joy, especially for single driver 'phones, obviously you can't expect them to outperform SE420's or similar as they are half the price for a start, but aside for the bass which is not as powerful as it maybe could be, the reproduction of sounds from all frequencies is exceptional really. The bass is present, but not overpowering assuming you know how to wear the earphones and get a good fit.
The phones come with a carry case, the earphones with a short cable and an extension cable, all gold plated and very well made. Noise whilst walking etc. is noticably quieter than my old Sennheiser CX500's. The amount of different fittings for your ears was a pleasant suprise, as there will be something to fit every single persons ear.
One piece of advice though, if you think that the quality of headphones/earphones can be determined by the level of bass that is produced then I suggest you steer clear of these Buy Other Sound Equipment, as you will not appreciate the quality of reproduction that these earphones offer.

Oh my - what clarity
Comment:
I had been using a pair of Sony in-ear earphones for some time. However when they packed up I gave in and bought these, some three times more than the last pair.
I have not been let down. I also want to thank my friend daily for recommending them. The clarify of the music (which I normally rip at 192k) on my ipod is amazing. Whereas previously you could hear two instruments, but they sounded like it was one person playing, now they are separate, clear and concise.
It's been great fun listening to my music and hearing so much more detail than was there before.
If you're worried about spending £65 on a pair of ear phones, don't. It's worth every penny.

Comment:
This are amazing earphones period. Must people use this with their ipods or any other mp3 players and must have in conscience that ripping music under 320k and playing it will loose a lot of quality (loose bass and depth), espeacially if you are using good earphones. And YES, you need to loose some time fitting them correctly. I did passed around 1hour changing and fitting and i did came to a conclusion. They really block exterior noise almost 90%. I can't hear cars on the street and i even emberaced myself a few times with people on my side talking to me and i haven't noticed. Conclusion: This are kind studio monitors: they delivery FLAT sound with no rich coloured bass (personaly i like that, and don't even bother putting bass equalization as they will distort), you manage to hear all the details of your music (balanced sound), you block external noise and your ears won't fatigue. Great great great (for audiophiles on the moving)
